Junior Badminton Training Program – FAQs
1. What age groups do you accept?
We accept junior players aged 7 to 17 years, divided into age-appropriate and skill-based groups: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
2. How are players placed in beginner, intermediate, or advanced groups?
Placement is based on an initial skill assessment conducted by our certified coaches. We evaluate grip, footwork, shot control, consistency, and game understanding. Players may be re-evaluated and switch between groups as they progress.
3. What is taught in the Beginner Program?
- Basic grip and footwork
- Underhand and overhead strokes
- High serves and clears
- Simple net shots
- Intro to rules, scoring, and court awareness
- Fun games to build confidence
4. What is taught in the Intermediate Program?
- Correct technique for smashes, drops, and net play
- Footwork coordination (split step, recovery)
- Game strategy and shot placement
- Serving variations
- Singles and doubles drills
- Match play with coaching feedback
5. What is taught in the Advanced Program?
- Competitive training with high-intensity drills
- Physical conditioning and endurance
- Advanced tactical play
- Deception, rotation, anticipation
- Tournament preparation
- Mental toughness and match strategy
6. Who are the coaches?
Our coaches are highly experienced professionals from Canada and internationally (India, China, Malaysia, and Indonesia). They bring experience from provincial, national, and international levels.
Our Existing Coaches:
Guest Coach-Austin Flannigan (Ottawa's No 1 Single players, National level player, experienced coach )
Head Coach-Victor Chan (Very high level Coach, One of the Ottawa's Best with lot of experiences with different clubs)
Assist. Coach-Vedant Sardeshpande (One of Ottawa's top 5 Single Players and played State and National level Junior tournaments in India)
Assist. Coach-Aayush Saha (Badminton Canada, Jr. National Ranking Player, represented Canada twice in Junior PAN AM Championships).
Sr. Guest Coach-Venky Agarwal (One of the top 5 Single players in Ottawa and also played State level and National Level tournaments in India).
7. How many kids are in each group?
To ensure individual attention, each group has a low coach-to-student ratio (typically 1:6 to 1:8).
8. How often are the classes?
- For now only once a week (Every Sundays). As soon as we get the gym in week nights, we will add more days.
9. What equipment does my child need?
- Badminton racket
- Non-marking indoor court shoes
- Water bottle and towel
- Comfortable sportswear
We provide shuttles (during training drills) and all other training equipment. Players bring their own shuttles for the games only.
10. Is there a fitness component?
Yes! For HP Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels, we include a fitness and footwork component focusing on agility, strength, and coordination.
For NON-HP Program, we include footwork and light fitness.
11. Will my child play in tournaments?
Yes!
- Intermediate and Advanced players are encouraged to compete in local, provincial and National tournaments.
- Beginners are encouraged to join friendly in-house matches to gain confidence and to play local tournaments..
12. Can my child try a session before enrolling?
Absolutely if we have space available.
We offer a trial class (at a nominal fee) so your child can experience the training environment before committing.
13. How can I register?
You can register via our website. Registration for the full season is started already.
14. What is the fee structure?
Fees vary by level and frequency of training. We offer mostly seasonal packages only. Please contact us directly for current rates.
15. Is there a sibling discount?
No but sibling gets priorities for registration or private sessions.
16. Is there any refund for cancellation or not attending the classes?
There is NO refund for cancellation or not attending the training program.
